The Kraken Wakes
by John Wyndham
IDR 80,000

The title of this book is taken from a poem by Tennyson which describes how:

Far, far beneath in the abysmal sea...

The Kraken sleepeth...

There hath he lain for ages and will lie...

Until the latter fires hall heat the deep...

and is the story of the awakening and rise to power of intelligible forces beneath the surface of the sea. The almost imperceptible beinnings and the cruelly terrifying consequences of this new threat to the world are seen through the eyes of a radio script writer and his wife. Told with convincing detail and immediacy, this novel shares with John Wyndham's other books the distinction of being one of the few modern workss of science fiction to bear comparison with the famous novels of H.G. Wells.
